The summer break is over and the F4 Central European Zone championship has entered the second half of its 2026 season. A 40-car field assembled at Autodrom Most in northern Bohemia, where home favourite Max Karhan and Germany’s Elia Weiss shared the victories.
After an eight-week pause, the F4 CEZ drivers and teams returned to action to begin the next phase of the season. The Racing Journal Speed Fest treated the large crowd in the grandstands to the spectacular sight of 40 single-seaters, with several local drivers like Karhan, Teo Borenstein, David Gorčica, František Němec, Tobiáš Paško, David Gorčica, Roman Roubíček and also Ella Hakkinen, who races under a Czech licence. It was at Most that she achieved her best results of the season, finishing fifth twice.
Jenzer Motorsport’s Max Karhan made the strongest start to the weekend. In qualifying, the home driver pipped team-mate Elia Weiss at the very last moment to secure pole position by just 0.007 seconds. The pair were in a class of their own in qualifying, comfortably clear not only of the rest of the field but also of their other team-mates.
While Saturday morning’s qualifying session took place in ideal summer conditions, the skies darkened ahead of the afternoon’s Race 1 and rain began to fall. Although it stopped shortly before the start, there was never any doubt throughout the field that wet-weather tyres were the only sensible choice.
For safety reasons, the race began behind the safety car. When the field was finally released, the cars disappearing into clouds of spray, Karhan enjoyed the clearest view of the circuit ahead. He ultimately led team-mate Teo Borenstein home, giving the local drivers the top two places, with Denmark’s David Walther completing the podium for Maffi Racing.
“It was a very difficult race,” Karhan said. “The safety car obviously made the start a little easier and I managed to build a small gap, but then I made a minor mistake and Teo Borenstein got closer than I would have liked. In the end, though, I managed to win and I’m delighted to be back on the top step of the podium, especially after taking the first pole position of my career.”
The second, third and final fourth races, however, were completely dominated by Elia Weiss. The German claimed a hat-trick of victories at Most and moved to the top of the championship standings. Weiss produced a masterclass throughout, combining excellent starts with total concentration, remaining unfazed by the frequent yellow-flag periods and red-flag stoppages.
“It was a great race,” Weiss said after his first victory. “I took the lead and from there I was able to control the race and keep an eye on Teo. I was a little disappointed after qualifying second, but everything came together in the race and we won.”
Weiss collected the maximum number of points available at Autodrom Most, as did Jenzer Motorsport, which won every race through Karhan and Weiss. Weiss converted his three starts into three victories, while Borenstein took three runner-up finishes and Walther claimed three third places. In addition to his win, Karhan added another second place, while Simon Rechenmacher was the only other driver to collect an overall podium trophy, finishing among the top three in Race 2.
The weekend was not without its share of incidents and accidents, whether caused by on-track battles or individual driver errors. The safety car was therefore called into action on numerous occasions, while races were also frequently suspended by red flags to allow recovery vehicles to reach stranded cars safely.
F4 CEZ will continue with another round in the Czech Republic in September, visiting Autodrom Brno on 12–13 September.
