F4 CEZ is different! Honouring newcomers not rookies

The Formula 4 Central European Zone (F4 CEZ) Championship continues with the special Rookie Rocket awards this season – honouring the best Rookie Rocket of each weekend. Dedicated classification is designed to spotlight newcomers, without significant testing mileage or gentleman drivers entering single-seater racing for fun.

This initiative aims to provide a competitive platform for drivers who may not yet match the pace of the championship frontrunners. Eligibility for the Rookie Rocket is determined by F4 CEZ organizers after initial practice sessions and mainly qualifying, typically including drivers whose lap times are over 101% of the fastest qualifying time. This limit may vary depending on the circuit. Every weekend right after Qualifying the weekends “Rookie Rockets” list is released.

The Rookie Rocket rankings are evaluated after each race weekend, with the top three performers receiving trophies during the following event. Notably, drivers demonstrating significant improvement may no longer be included in this classification in future races, reflecting the Rookie Rocket’s role in supporting complete newcomers or those with limited testing opportunities.

At the opening round of the 2025 season at the Red Bull Ring, the Rookie Rocket rankings featured:

  • David Walther (Maffi Racing) – 1st Place
  • Benett Gáspár (Zengő Motorsport) – 2nd Place
  • David Gorčica (Janík Motorsport) – 3rd Place
