After a summer break, the Formula 4 Central European Zone (F4 CEZ) Championship returns with the final stretch of races, bringing the junior single-seater scene closer to fans in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. This weekend, teams will head to Racing Journal Speed Fest at Autodrom Most for the fourth round of the season.
F4 CEZ is entering the second half of the season, and the title fight is heating up. Argentina’s Gino Trappa and Czech driver Max Karhan currently sit at the top of the standings, both riding strong waves of success. They’ve often gone head-to-head in previous races, and in the paddock, they’re separated by just a few centimeters, literally, as they’re teammates at Jenzer Motorsport.
The Swiss team brings more than 30 years of experience across various junior series. It’s no surprise then, that they’ve dominated previous seasons of F4 CEZ and continue to hold a strong position this year with a consistent four-driver lineup: Trappa, Karhan, Nicolas Cortes, and Javier Herrera. At the previous round at the Salzburgring, they impressively locked out the top four positions in the weekend’s first race.
Still, the championship retains its unpredictability. Jenzer’s main rival this season is fellow Swiss outfit Maffi Racing, led by David Walther, who already has a race win to his name. Walther is joined by Danish driver Nikolaj Dyrved, Swiss racer Andreas Lo Bue, and Czech Teo Borenstein.
Alongside Karhan and Borenstein, Czech fans can also look forward to seeing František Němec representing the F4 CEZ Academy powered by JMT Racing, which will field a second car for Tomáš Chabr.
Another local driver, David Gorčica, continues his campaign with Janík Motorsport, while French driver Romuald Bocquet will return to the F4 cockpit of Janík´s team.
Hungary’s Zengö Motorsport will line up with Benett Gáspár, and Austria’s Renauer Motorsport will bring two cars for their regulars Hady Mimassi and Simon Schranz. Joining the field in a black-and-silver car is Michalina Sabaj, one of three female drivers on the grid, along with Kiara Henni from Henni Motorsport and Mathilda Paatz, who recently raced in the F1 Academy event in Montreal.
This year’s F4 CEZ grid is stacked with talent. So far, 23 different drivers have appeared, but only one will walk away as champion—taking a crucial step forward in their career. Who will come out on top at the Racing Journal Speed Fest in Most? Will we see familiar faces on the podium, or will a new contender emerge? We’ll find out on July 26–27.
