Swiss team Jenzer Motorsport has won the last three drivers’ and teams’ titles in the F4 Central European Zone and, for its fourth season in the series, is preparing six formula 4 cars. Team founder Andreas Jenzer talked with us about this year’s driver line-up and what he expects for this season.
Jenzer Motorsport team will consist of three experienced drivers and three newcomers. The lead driver will be last year’s vice-champion Max Karhan. “This year he has one clear goal and that’s to win the championship. Obviously, re-signing Max makes us very happy because he is a very experienced young Czech driver. We all know Max did a great job last year,” says Andreas Jenzer and continues with introducing another two experienced drivers. “Teo Borenstein did the winter series with us and he did a great job. I think he has good speed and he also knows the circuits very well. Teo will do his best to be as close as possible to Max, and let’s see how it will go. But Teo, for me, will for sure also be a championship contender.”
The third driver expected to deliver strong results is 16-year-old Elia Weiss from Germany. “Elia is entering his second season in formula 4. He will have the double duty with F4 Italy and F4 CEZ with us. Obviously, he doesn’t know the tracks in F4 CEZ, but he is a fast learner. I think Elia Weiss, Teo Borenstein and Max Karhan will have a great season together,” continues Andreas Jenzer.
The other three cars in Jenzer Motorsport are reserved for newcomers, drivers who are making a big step into the single-seater world and the expectation from them is mainly to get up to speed and gain much-needed experience.
“They are rookie drivers, it’s their first year. They have not been driving as much as the other three drivers, but from time to time they will hopefully also be running at the front,” says Andreas Jenzer, expecting promising outings from Georgiy Zasov and Markas Silkunas, both of whom made their racing debut with the team in the Winter series at the beginning of the season. The third rookie for Jenzer Motorsport is still to be announced.
The balanced mix of experienced F4 drivers and rookies is what Andreas Jenzer likes to see. “Obviously, rookie drivers always need to learn, and I think it’s great for them to learn from Max, Teo and Elia. Because these drivers already have all the skills to achieve good results, and they will produce very strong data within the team. And the ones who are able to copy and learn the most from their teammates will improve faster. We are working very openly inside the team, all the engineers and all the drivers are working together. Nothing is a secret inside the team, they can use each other’s data, they can use each other’s experience and they will work hard together to achieve the best possible results for themselves and also for the team.”
Jenzer Motorsport entered the F4 CEZ championship in 2023 and has since won all the drivers’ and teams’ standings, so it is clear that the Swiss team is the one to beat in a field of more than 40 cars.
“You know, we have been used to competing for more than 30 years in single-seater championships. We are used to this kind of environment, we don’t feel more pressure or tension. Obviously, with 40 cars in the field, there might sometimes be a bit more luck involved, but we are used to this kind of championship. We don’t feel additional pressure, for us it’s a normal situation, and we are just happy to be part of the group helping the championship grow.”
