Kornelia Olkucka began her journey in the F4 CEZ Championship with a promising start at Balaton Park. Coming from a successful karting career, she joined the Maffi Racing Team from Switzerland.
After securing 11th place in qualifying at Hungarian race track, she was content with her performance. „I am enjoying it, I am very happy, always smiling. I was stressed before, but now I am relieved that practice sessions went well and also qualifying,“ she reflected on her experience, despite the pressures of her first formula 4 competition.
Olkucka performed impressively in the first race, contending for victory in the Women’s Cup. Aiming ambitiously for P1 in the Women’s Trophy, Olkucka humorously mentioned before the race a bet with her boss, Christian Maffi: „We had a bet that if I win that cup in all three races, my car will be pink, so this is my goal.“
She was one of three young women in the starting field and led Women´s Cup until the last lap when she run into the troubles , and the win did not materialize, so her car wil remain in white Maffi colors. However, in the second race, she finished 11th overall and second in the cup for ladies. Unfortunately, she did not finish the third race after a collision with Michalina Sabaj.
Nevertheless, the Balaton Park track, new to most starters, suited her well. „I was training on the simulator, as I have a simulator at home, so I knew a bit about the ideal line. The track was very slippery at the beginning, but we managed okay,“ Olkucka recalled her first experience on the track.
Looking forward to her next challenge at the Red Bull Ring, she remains enthusiastic. „You know, it’s completely different; it’s fast with sharp corners. Of course, it’s different because it’s a Formula 1 track. I’ve also driven on this track in the simulator, so we’ll see.“
